@Neo Art Connect III, Bucharest (2026)
Holos Kaustos is a sculptural work originating from the
larger research project “Not to be Reproduced / A nu fi reprodus”, where
it functions both as an autonomous sculpture and as an extension of the
artist’s book of the same title.
The work began with the 3D
scanning of the commemorative bust of Octavian Goga, reinstalled in
Iași in 2021.
Using a non-intrusive, contactless recording process, the
monument was digitally documented and subsequently 3D printed at
approximately life size. Deprived of its original pedestal, inscriptions,
and commemorative context, the monochrome reproduction no longer functions as a
monument, but as a critical sculptural object.
Rather than reproducing the
historical figure, the project reproduces the mechanisms of commemoration themselves, questioning how monuments construct, preserve, and legitimize
collective memory.
By extracting the bust from its original site and
presenting it under the title “Holos Kaustos”, the work suspends its
commemorative function and invites a reconsideration of the political
narratives embedded within public sculpture.
Within the broader framework
of “Not to be Reproduced / A nu fi reprodus”, the bust becomes a point
of departure for a wider investigation into reproduction, propaganda,
collective memory, and the contemporary circulation of ideological narratives.
